At the turn of the year, Donald Tusk's Poland takes over as the EU's presidency. Barely three weeks later, Donald Trump will be succeeded by Joe Biden as the President of the USA, and many believe that American support for Ukraine in the war against Russia will decrease.
At Wednesday's press conference in Harpsund, Södermanland, during the summit between Poland and the Nordic and Baltic countries, Tusk sent an invitation to Trump, with a twinkle in his eye.
It's obvious that one Donald should trust another Donald. We have no other choice, I think, he says, before sharpening his tone.
Europe as a whole and NATO must be firmly determined and, if necessary, ready to replace some tools and money if the US decision becomes what it seems to be today.
Tusk thinks that the EU and Europe in general should see a potential decrease in American interest as an opportunity and not as a threat. He urges a more European perspective on the war.
To be honest, we're not just talking about Ukraine or Russia. We're talking about our security and about preventing a third world war.
