Roadworks on the E4 outside Nyköping caused kilometer-long traffic jams on Monday and several media outlets have reported on vacationers getting stuck in traffic for hours. Now, the Swedish Transport Administration is backing down and the work will instead be carried out at night.

The roads must be safe, secure, and accessible for both drivers and those working along them, which is why we were forced to redirect the roadwork to nighttime instead, says the Swedish Transport Administration's communicator Maria Mauritzon.

The roadwork is expected to be completed by Friday morning. Motorists driving on the E4 will still notice that roadwork is ongoing. But not to the same extent as before.
