The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) issues a yellow warning for torrential rain in large parts of Götaland, Öland, and southwestern Värmland on Wednesday.

A warm air mass is being brought in from the south, which will activate heavy showers already during the day, says Sofia Söderberg, meteorologist at SMHI.

The rain may cause problems with flooding. Heavy thunderstorms can occur, which also involves a risk of fires.

Then a more coherent area is expected to pass eastward from mid-day and further into the afternoon and evening. It will move slowly over the area. It appears that it may decrease in scope during the night towards Thursday, says Söderberg.

Large amounts of rain may fall in a short time, up to 40-60 millimeters.

But there is a great local variation, and in some areas it may not rain that much at all.

The rain may cause flooding of roads, viaducts, stormwater systems, and basements. There is also a risk of disruptions to the power supply and train traffic due to lightning strikes.
