On the OMXS30 index of the most traded shares, defense company Saab performed best, up 4.3 percent. Earlier in the afternoon, reports emerged that Colombia is on its way to buying Jas Gripen from Saab.

Technology company ABB also rose, up 2.3 percent, and cloud service company Sinch, up 2.8 percent.

The market is currently fully focused on the presidential election in the USA. In Asia, the trend was mostly upwards during night trading, and the New York Stock Exchange opened slightly upwards on Tuesday.

Besides the election, the market is also keeping an eye on this week's interest rate decisions from the US Federal Reserve (Fed) on Thursday. On the same day, interest rate decisions will also be made by the Swedish Central Bank.

The price of a dollar is falling on Tuesday and costs 10.71 kronor. One euro goes for 11.68 kronor.
