Right in the middle of the Olympic Games, the Swedish handball stars Carin Strömberg and Jessica Ryde received the news: their French club team Nantes has gone bankrupt.
It's incredibly bad! It's the worst possible timing, right in the middle of the Olympic Games when you have full focus here. I really enjoy myself in the club, in the city and in the league, says midfielder Strömberg to Aftonbladet after the win against South Korea in the Olympic group stage in Paris.
Besides Strömberg and goalkeeper Ryde, midfielder Anna Lagerquist, who is injured with a cruciate ligament injury, also plays for the French top club Nantes.
It's bloody sad and that they have to handle it now right in the middle of an ongoing Olympic Games: not knowing where you're going to work and if things are going to be moved. They of course have our support if they need any help with anything, says Sweden's national team captain Tomas Axnér to the newspaper.
According to Aftonbladet, the players received the news on Wednesday after the club had filed for bankruptcy.
