The Republican who supports Harris: My sign was stolen

She is a republican and lives in a Trump-dominated area in Florida. But this year, Veronica Miranda chose to vote for Kamala Harris and put up a campaign sign in the garden. Our Harris sign was stolen. A person with a black mask came and took it, says entrepreneur Miranda.

A white car drove up in front of the house and then it was just gone. I got so angry.

The theft occurred on the afternoon before the election day. The same evening, Miranda, who runs a hotel booking website, was at the Democrats' local office to pick up new campaign material.

My family are true Bush Republicans. Our values do not match Donald Trump's, she says about her choice.

Moreover, the abortion issue is important to me. A woman must be able to make decisions about her own body.

Veronica Miranda, who is Puerto Rican, had made up her mind before Donald Trump's notable campaign meeting in Madison Square Garden. It was there that comedian Tony Hinchcliffe joked about Puerto Rico as "an island of trash".

We were so upset. My whole family was furious, she tells.

Miranda's story illustrates the strong emotions in the US presidential election. The population is polarized, opinion polls show that what voters fear most is that "the other side" will win.
