The Philippine military claims that a Chinese fighter jet has threatened a Philippine military plane through provocative maneuvers. The incidents occurred in the disputed areas of the South China Sea earlier in the week.
The two Chinese fighter jets are also said to have fired flares to disrupt the Philippine plane, which was conducting a routine flight over the area, according to the Philippine military.
The Chinese fighter jets "flew close by" and "risked our pilots' lives", said a high-ranking military security adviser in the Philippines.
China claims large parts of the South China Sea, but the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Vietnam also believe they have rights to parts of the waters. Military markings and provocations are recurring over the sea.
