Japanese Yuka Saso won the golf major US Open in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
The 22-year-old succeeded, despite a double bogey on the sixth hole, to conclude the rather challenging tournament four strokes under par. Saso made four birdies in her last nine holes and won by three strokes ahead of Hinako Shibuno, also from Japan.
Saso also won the US Open in San Francisco 2021, then for the Philippines. She is thus the youngest player to win the major tournament twice.
World number one Nelly Korda failed to make the cut after a nightmare start in the first round, when she hit three balls in the water on the same hole and eventually took 10 strokes to get out of the hole.
Of the five Swedes who played, only two remained after the second round. The best Swedish player in the tournament was Anna Nordqvist, who finished tied for 36th place, 10 strokes over par. Further down the result list was Madelene Sagström, tied for 69th place at +16.
