It's heart-wrenching, she says at a tearful press conference.

The double Olympic medalist, bronze in 1992 and silver in 1994, made her way to the club's facility after the accident.

We just wanted to be here and be part of our community, says Kerrigan.

Two young skaters, their mothers, and two coaches – Russian former world champions Jevgenija Sjisjkova and Vadim Naumov – were on the domestic flight that collided with a military helicopter late on Wednesday evening, local time.

The young people here work hard, their parents work hard. I feel for the skaters and their families, but for everyone who was on the plane. Because it's such a tragic event, says Nancy Kerrigan.
