Richard Jomshof has been investigated for sharing two images on X, formerly Twitter, in May this year. Last week, he was formally suspected of incitement against a ethnic group.
Now, Joakim Zander, chief prosecutor at the special prosecutor's office, has dropped the case, which Aftonbladet was the first to report on.
"Political message"
According to the prosecutor, the suspicions against Jomshof were dropped after the interrogation with him.
He has been given the opportunity to express his view on the matter and has stated that his intention was to participate in or create a debate on migration issues, says Joakim Zander.
He did this on X, which is a platform he uses to convey his political messages. In that context, together with the prevailing practice in the area, I believe that there is no longer any suspicion of a crime.
Does it affect that he is a politician and that it can be said to be part of his job to create debate?
Yes, one can say that it is not insignificant that he is a politician and creates this type of headlines on his political platform, at the same time as there is a ongoing discussion about migration, says Joakim Zander.
Two other cases
After the criminal suspicions against Richard Jomshof became known, his post was shared by others on X. Joakim Zander has since handled two other reports, which will not lead to anything further.
I have seen it as a clear reaction to my decision to initiate an investigation. In that context, it is clear that the purpose was not to express contempt for an ethnic group, says he.
In connection with the investigation against him, Jomshof took a pause as chairman of the Riksdag's Justice Committee. Now he is returning.
Two images that Richard Jomshof shared on X on May 28 were reported as incitement against an ethnic group.
In one of the images, a migrant family is welcomed into a house with the text "Europe" on it. In the next image, the house has been set on fire and the father and son in the family are running away screaming: "Islam first".
In the other image, a man and two women in a boat marked "England" rescue a Pakistani migrant from drowning. In the next image, the migrant attacks the three people in the boat and beats the man overboard with a stick with the text "Rape jihad".
