Thomas Bull, currently a Justice of the Supreme Court, has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Justice and head of the Chancellor of Justice.
The authority exercises, among other things, supervision over authorities and their officials, regulates claims for damages against the state, and is the prosecutor in freedom of the press and freedom of expression cases.
Previously, Bull has been a professor of constitutional law at Uppsala University and has been a special investigator and expert in several government inquiries.
"Thomas Bull's extensive experience from the court, government inquiries, and research, as well as his expertise in matters concerning our fundamental laws, makes him very well suited for the work as Chancellor of Justice", says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer in a press release.
He succeeds Mari Heidenborg in the position, who since September 2 this year is President of the Svea Court of Appeal.
Bull will take office on March 1 next year, until then Daniel Kjellgren is acting Chancellor of Justice.
