It is most likely that there will be no more Millennium this year. This was the message from Regional Director Håkan Sandahl when the discredited journal system was shut down on Friday - just three days after its introduction.
At the same time, Sandahl stated that he still has confidence in Millennium.
Yes, unfortunately, we are getting signals that they want to work with an introduction, and we see that with great concern, says Emelie Hultberg.
"Has been extremely clear"
She is the chair of the Västra Götaland Medical Association and participated in trade union meetings on Monday morning with, among others, Karin Looström Muth, the region's health and medical development director.
There were several matters to be addressed, but the big question was, of course, Millennium. I have been extremely clear that the only way to move forward is to stop Millennium, says Emelie Hultberg.
She states that the region's decision to pause Millennium was welcome - but also claims that the chaotic days have damaged confidence.
Last week cannot be undone. But by taking responsibility, I believe it is still possible to minimize the damage. We do not see that the system can be saved, says Emelie Hultberg.
External review
The Västra Götaland Region announces that an external review of the introduction of Millennium will be set up on Tuesday.
"The introduction did not go as we thought, and now we want to find out what happened. Now we want to see the way forward to ensure that the Västra Götaland Region has a functioning and patient-safe healthcare information environment for the future," says Regional Council Chairman Helén Eliasson (S) in a press release.
It was last Tuesday that the switch to Millennium took place within healthcare in the Sjuhärads area. From employees came direct testimony of a complicated and slow system where very little worked as it should.
After extensive protests, the regional council finally chose to temporarily pause Millennium on Friday.
According to Laura Raduta, chief physician and chief safety representative at Södra Älvsborg Hospital in Borås, parts of the staff at Säs used paper and pen over the weekend while Millennium was rolled back in favor of the old system.
We had double staffing and fewer patients, so it worked. It has not been patient-safe, but we have been so focused on the system instead of the individuals in front of us, she says.
