Three of the men were sentenced by the district court to life imprisonment and one man to eleven years and nine months in prison.
Now the court of appeal acquits all four of involvement in the murder. This also means that they no longer have to pay damages to the relatives.
According to the court's chairman Björn R. le Grand, the evidence in the investigation has not been strong enough.
"It's mainly about circumstantial evidence where several links are weak. Much of what has been presented can indeed be linked to the prosecutor's claims", he says in a press release.
"For a guilty verdict, it is required that it is established beyond reasonable doubt that the defendants did what the prosecutor claims. And decisive for the court of appeal's assessment is that the evidence does not suffice for this".
It was in May 2020 that a 20-year-old man was shot dead with a large number of shots on a parking lot in Ragnvalla in Helsingborg.
Three of the men who were prosecuted for murder were also, along with another man, convicted of complicity in preparations for murder on two women who were close to the murdered man. The court of appeal sentences two of them for conspiracy to murder the women. For this, they receive two and a half and three and a half years in prison, respectively.
The court of appeal also acquits the two other men of serious drug offenses.
