The New York Stock Exchange's leading index rose on Monday. The broad S&P 500 index and the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index both rose marginally by 0.1 percent, while the Dow Jones industrial index increased by 0.7 percent.
The biggest gainer in the S&P 500 was Tesla, which rose 9.0 percent. The electric car manufacturer, whose CEO Elon Musk is closely allied with incoming President Donald Trump, surged 15 percent the day after the election – and the stock has continued its upward trend.
The worst performer on the first day of the trading week was the index-heavy chip manufacturer Nvidia, which fell 1.6 percent. In particular, the Nvidia stock affects the development on Nasdaq.
Another loser was the pharmaceutical company Abbvie. New findings showed that a schizophrenia drug developed by the company did not achieve approved results in a placebo test. The stock fell over 12 percent.
