According to the Prosecution Authority, a trial has been brought against a teenage boy for attempted murder, serious weapons offense, and serious illegal threats.
The boy was 14 years old at the time of the shooting but has since turned 15. A charge has also been brought for aiding and abetting attempted murder against a then 15-year-old boy.
The incident occurred on October 6 last year when a 25-year-old store employee was shot at the Kungsmässan shopping center.
The man was seriously injured but survived, while the suspected shooter was apprehended by members of the public.
According to Viktor Törneke, senior prosecutor and investigation leader, the police have a clear picture of the sequence of events. However, they have not been able to find a clear motive.
We do not know what conflict may have led to this, says Törneke.
But I can establish that there has been quite a lot of planning and measures taken by several people to carry out this shooting.
A 23-year-old is also suspected of attempted murder, serious weapons offense, and involving a minor in criminal activity for the same incident.
He is one step up in the hierarchy and is one of those who have pulled the strings, says Viktor Törneke.
In February, three people were convicted of preparing to murder the same man who was shot at Kungsmässan.
A child under 15 years old who is suspected of a serious crime cannot be detained, arrested, or prosecuted. Instead, it is through a so-called trial that the possible guilt can be established.
The court will then decide whether the young person has committed the crime or not, but will not impose any penalty.
Since a law change in 2023 – which means that prosecutors are responsible for bringing trials – the number of cases with trials has increased.
