To prevent the demonstration march from reaching Delhi, the police have set up barricades along several roads north of the capital. The farmers managed to break through parts of the blockade before being stopped by the police's tear gas.
The authorities have also restricted access to the internet along the march's route to disrupt the demonstrators' communication.
We want the government to let us exercise our democratic right to demonstrate, says protest leader Sarwan Singh Pandher to reporters.
