The Chinese military has, within the framework of its exercise, sent up 32 aircraft and is using live ammunition in an area around 7.4 miles south of the island, according to Taiwan's defense department, which assesses the Chinese exercises as dangerous.
"This action has not only caused a high degree of danger for the safety of international air traffic and sea vessels, but is also a blatant provocation of regional security and stability", writes the department.
China has increased the deployment of fighter jets and warships around Taiwan in recent years. China claims that Taiwan is part of Chinese territory.
