The 30-year-old has already won two medals in the World Championship – gold in sprint and bronze in skiathlon – and was the fastest of all in the sprint relay qualification. Dahlqvist was 15 seconds slower, but also had Sundling's time to go on and didn't need to exert herself on her leg. Italy won the qualification, just ahead of Sweden.
Notably, a skier like Jasmi Joensuu, who leads the sprint cup, had a tough time. The Finn was almost half a minute slower than Sundling on the 1.4-kilometer track.
In the qualification, all skiers skied their own lap on the sprint track. The times are then added up to determine which 15 teams make it to the final, which will be decided later today.
Oskar Svensson, who had to jump in at short notice for the sick Calle Halfvarsson, had a tough men's qualification.
His time only managed to secure 16th place – and at that point, the Swedish team was out of the final.
It felt a bit "off". But I think it'll be okay anyway, says Svensson.
It was. Edvin Anger made sure Sweden qualified as 12th out of 15 teams, 15.10 seconds behind the qualifying winner Norway.
