The package of approximately 87 billion kronor is the largest so far retrieved from a program to stimulate investments in semiconductor manufacturing in the USA.

The loan is tied to projects ongoing in four states in the USA. The first payment of 1 billion dollars can come as early as this year based on the milestones already achieved by Intel, according to a government source for Bloomberg.

In an earlier stage, there was a proposal for an even larger support package to Intel, of 8.5 billion dollars, in addition to a loan package of 11 billion.

Intel has, however, chosen not to take any loans and the support package has been reduced somewhat.

Totalt, Intel has promised investments of 100 billion dollars in factories in the USA, including large contracts with the defense industry as a base.
