The drone attack was carried out against the hospital in the city of al-Fasher in Darfur province. The hospital was one of the few hospitals in the region that still functioned.

According to initial reports from a local human rights group, around 30 people were killed, but the number of fatalities rose sharply during Saturday evening and was reported to be 67.

A large number of people were injured in the drone attack. Furthermore, the hospital building was destroyed.

Since April 2023, the civil war between the country's army and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has been ongoing, and it is still unclear which of the two parties is behind the attack.

The attack on the hospital building followed an attack on the country's largest oil refinery earlier in the week. The al-Jaili refinery, located about six miles north of the capital Khartum, has previously been subjected to attacks since RSF took control of the facility in April 2023.

Sudan's army claimed that RSF "deliberately set fire" to the refinery in an attempt to destroy the country's infrastructure. RSF, on the other hand, claimed that the Sudanese army had bombed the facility.
