New figures from the industry organization Visita show that sales volume decreased in all restaurant categories during the third quarter compared to the same period in 2023.

The total sales volume fell by 3.3 percent, with personal restaurants having the lowest outcome, minus 8.4 percent.

"It suggests that it is the households' strained economic situation that is behind the downturn, rather than temporary behavioral changes", says Visita's chief economist Thomas Jakobsson in a press release.

In current prices, the total restaurant industry's sales instead increased by 0.9 percent during the third quarter compared to the corresponding period the previous year.
