S-Politician Leaves Assignments After Cake Statement

The local Social Democratic politician Tonka Frodlund (S) decided to boycott a bakery in Helsingborg that baked congratulatory cakes for the "wrong team", Malmö FF. At the request of the party, she has now left two of her political assignments, writes HD/Sydsvenskan.

The Helsingborg bakery that made the three MFF cakes on order since the team won the Allsvenskan gold was subjected to a wave of hate. The S-politician's boycott of a local bakery sparked strong reactions within the party itself.

We take this very seriously. It does not at all reflect the values of the Social Democrats in Helsingborg, says local S-chairman Maria Ward (S), to the newspaper.

Frodlund is leaving her assignments as vice chairman of the municipal electoral board and as a substitute in the local board of S. The party had asked her to also leave the municipal council, but she remains there.

After the attention surrounding the hate storm, the bakery has received a lot of support, from all over the country.

I've even been contacted by people in northern Sweden who want to send me money via Swish, says confectioner Bengt Carlsson to the newspaper.
