Women still take more parental leave and work part-time more often than men. And their absence from work costs them thousands of dollars a month. This shows a new report from Swedbank.
According to the report, women's actual working hours are 87 percent of men's. And only absence from work costs women thousands of dollars a month.
A woman who saves 10 percent of her salary after tax in 25 years – has a pension capital of nearly 200,000 kronor less than men, according to the report. Simply because she works less.
And the main reasons why women work less – are that they take greater responsibility for the children and work more part-time, according to Madelén Falkenhäll.
According to figures from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, women take out 69 percent of parental leave days and 61 percent of parental care days.
And in Swedbank's own survey, 57 percent of women between 18 and 75 years old said they worked or had worked part-time, while the corresponding figure for men was 44 percent.
In the survey, half of the women also said they took greater responsibility for the children, and only 12 percent of men.
The report also shows that it will take almost 30 years before incomes are equalized.
A possible explanation for why it goes slowly is that fathers in greater extent took out more parental leave, until 2018.
