Skellefteå after the bankruptcy: "Nightmare message"

The message on Wednesday that the battery manufacturer Northvolt has gone bankrupt is a nightmare message. This says the chairman of the municipal council Lorents Burman (S) at a press conference. The hope now is that the business will be driven further and that a new owner will emerge.

At a press conference in Skellefteå on Wednesday, the chairman of the municipal council Lorents Burman (S), Kristina Sundin Jonsson, municipal director, regional councilor Rickard Carstedt (S), and Governor Helene Hellmark Knutsson all gave the same message.

All of them emphasized how deeply unfortunate the bankruptcy notice is and expressed empathy for the employees and others affected.

Here, it's about helping those who are directly or indirectly affected, said Kristina Sundin Jonsson and added that the municipality has activated its crisis organization.

The four also talked about the importance of keeping production going until one or more new owners can take over.

The government must act. All forces must be mobilized. It's not a wait-and-see situation. It's a situation that requires activation and action – and it must be done at the national level, says Helene Hellmark Knutsson, Governor of Västerbotten.
