SJ has cancelled night train traffic on the entire route on Sunday. The decision was a consequence of the severe cold in northern Sweden, where temperatures are expected to drop below minus 30 degrees. The decision was made for safety reasons on the recommendation of the Transport Administration, and Saturday's departures were also cancelled.
From Narvik and downwards it's very exposed – if you think of Kiruna, the national border, Narvik and upwards, it's very inaccessible. There are no roads nearby, so if you need to evacuate, it's very difficult, says Leila Fogelholm at SJ's press department.
This means that no night trains on the route will depart from Stockholm Central on Sunday.
On Saturday, SJ also decided to cancel all train traffic on the routes Umeå–Boden and Luleå–Kiruna for three days. These trains are still cancelled.
