A man in Valdemarsvik is sentenced for animal cruelty after having tied his dog to the car's towbar and driven away, reports Norrköpings Tidningar.

The man needed to tie his dog somewhere and therefore tied it to the towbar. According to the man himself, he then forgot about it, whereupon it was dragged behind the car for 500 meters, writes NT.

When the man had parked the car, he discovered the leash in the towbar. After four hours of searching, he found the dog in a bus shelter.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian and then to an animal hospital, but was so severely injured that it had to be put down. One of the veterinarians said in an interrogation that the injuries were the most extensive she had seen, according to NT.

The man admits to the crime, but means that he did not commit the act intentionally. He is sentenced to 80 day fines.
