The police were alerted just before 11 pm on Sunday evening to Bälinge outside Uppsala after a caller heard a loud bang and discovered a hole in their window.
On the scene, it was established that someone had fired a shot at the residence. No one is reported to have been physically injured.
The incident is being investigated as attempted murder and serious weapons offense. No one has been arrested.
