"Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie combines the personal with the political and portrays issues of power, gender, migration, and postcolonialism. Beyoncé and Barack Obama have praised her, Dior has printed her words on t-shirts – but her work echoes ancient storytelling traditions and highlights those who are often overlooked", reads part of the motivation.
"I am grateful for this award that recognizes my calling, for it is precisely what literary writing has always been for me: a calling, the central and defining part of my life", says Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in a press release according to DN.
Adichie broke through with "Purple Hibiscus" in 2003. In March this year, the novel "Dear Ijeawele" will be published in Swedish.
The award was established last year and is awarded to a literary author who has touched Swedish readers. Last year, it went to Joyce Carol Oates.
