SEK 180 million to mink farmers who shut down

Mink companies that wind up their operations before June 30 this year will receive state support. The decision can contribute to mink breeding in Sweden ceasing entirely, according to the industry organization Swedish Mink.

The Government is allocating a total of 180 million kronor, which will be paid out after the closure has been completed.

"The rules for the economic support for the closure of mink farming are now in place, and the Swedish Board of Agriculture will be able to pay out the support to affected companies after application," says Minister for Rural Affairs Peter Kullgren (KD) in a press release.

According to the industry organization Svensk Mink, around 20 mink farmers may be eligible for the support, reports P4 Blekinge.

My assessment is that all mink breeders in Sweden will take up this offer, says Jörgen Martinsson, CEO of Svensk Mink, to SVT News Blekinge.
