Armenia and the USA have signed an agreement on expanded security cooperation, which means that the government in Yerevan is distancing itself even further from the traditional ally Moscow.
The USA and Armenia will work towards closer cooperation on issues related to defense, economy, and democracy, according to the American Foreign Minister Antony Blinken.
This particularly concerns (Armenia's) independence and sovereignty within the country's own territory, said Blinken in a ceremony together with Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
Armenia has opened up to contacts with the West since the country has suffered military and economic setbacks against neighboring Azerbaijan, not least regarding control over the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabach.
