The sea and air rescue services were alerted to an area west of Gothenburg in the afternoon after a person fell overboard from a vessel, which Aftonbladet was the first to report on.
A large-scale operation was underway. Later, the sea rescue service announced that the person in question had been winched up from the water and taken to hospital.
We had both Danish and Swedish sea rescue helicopters on the scene fairly quickly, and it was the Danish helicopter that luckily found the person in the water and winched them up, says Anders Larsson, deputy sea rescue leader, to TT.
The extent of the person's injuries is unknown.
According to Göteborgs-Posten, it was a foreign merchant vessel. How the person fell overboard is not known.
The alarm was raised to the sea and air rescue services at around 16.20.
