The two are Americans who worked at GHF's distribution center in Khan Yunis. They were injured when two perpetrators threw two grenades at them in the morning, when the distribution of emergency aid was underway, according to a statement from GHF.
GHF began its efforts in Gaza at the end of May. This happened after international condemnations and repeated warnings of starvation with reference to Israel's blockade of Gaza in the spring - and since the UN and other established organizations were excluded.
Food as a weapon?
But GHF has been sharply criticized. Its strict selection of who receives help, including through facial recognition, is described by experts as an attempt to use food as a military weapon. Additionally, civilians who have sought out the few distribution centers have been repeatedly fired upon by the Israeli military.
Israel claims, however, that it only shoots at people who behave suspiciously and pose a threat.
The information about the attack comes at the same time as Israel's bombardment in the Gaza Strip continues. Five Palestinians are said to have been killed in an attack on a school in the city of Gaza in the morning. In an attack on another school in the same city, where civilians who had fled the war had sought refuge, three more were killed and about ten were injured, according to the Hamas-controlled civil defense spokesperson Mahmud Bassal.
Furthermore, eight are said to have been killed in a shooting near a distribution center for emergency aid in southern Gaza.
Positive response
The latest attacks come just hours after the terrorist-stamped Hamas announced that it had given a positive response to mediators regarding the latest proposal for a new ceasefire.
The Gaza war began with a terrorist-stamped Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, when over 1,200 people were killed and the extremist movement took hostages. Since then, Israel has killed over 57,000 Gaza residents, according to the area's health authorities, which do not distinguish between civilian and military victims. Israel has also strangled the transport of food, medicines, fuel, and other necessities to Gaza, resulting in widespread famine.
