Russia and China have strengthened their military ties since Russia launched its large-scale invasion war in Ukraine. At a meeting with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday, Shoigu emphasized the need for the two countries to "counter the double containment policy directed against Russia and China by the US and its satellites".
He praised the strong bonds between the countries.
Although it is not a military-political alliance like those formed during the Cold War, the relationship between our countries surpasses this type of interstate relations, he said according to Russian news agencies.
Wang Yi said, according to China's Foreign Ministry, that it is important for both sides "to strengthen unity and cooperate to defend common interests".
