39-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo played his last European Championship match in his career when he and his Portugal lost their quarterfinal against France on penalties.

But whether it was his final match ever in the national team is unclear.

We have suffered a defeat together as a team, no individual decisions have been made yet, replied national team captain Roberto Martinez to a direct question about Ronaldo's future.

In the fall, the qualifying rounds for the 2026 World Championship will begin, which will be played in Canada, Mexico, and the USA – and Ronaldo will have turned 41 before the championship starts. Exactly as old is already now defender Pepe – who was comforted by Ronaldo after Friday's elimination from the European Championship.

But despite his age, he has not decided whether he will continue or not:

It's not something I want to talk about, said Pepe after the match.
