The share of electric cars in Norwegian car sales in August rose to 94 percent, which is a new world record.

Tesla Model Y is the best-selling electric car in the country, with a market share of 18.8 percent in August registrations. Other popular models are Hyundai's Kona and Nissan's Leaf.

The sale of electric cars in Norway is incentivized with tax benefits.

A total of 10,480 electric cars were newly registered in Norway in August, which means 68,435 new registrations since the turn of the year.

Norway has set a goal to only sell cars with zero emissions sometime next year – which is ten years before the EU's target date for the same thing.

As a comparison with Norway, the EU's share of electric cars in new registrations in July was 12 percent.
