The applicants had 752 courses at 30 educational institutions to choose from, according to the Swedish Higher Education Authority ( UHR ). The most sought-after course in the entire country is basic data processing, offered by the University of Gävle, which has attracted over 2,900 applicants.
Most of the courses are offered remotely, which likely contributes to the great interest. Another likely reason is the uncertain situation on the labor market.
Summer courses are a way to occupy oneself and receive income in the form of student aid. At the same time, summer courses are a way to strengthen one's attractiveness for future job applications, says Maja Rudhe, section chief at Linnaeus University.
A soft start
There is no typical summer course student. The group includes everything from generally curious individuals to professionals who need further education and 19-year-olds who want to get a soft start with a course before starting a longer education, explains Maja Rudhe.
Therefore, the course offerings are also broad and include, for example, Mid Sweden University's popular positive psychology. Managing conflicts in working life is one of the most sought-after courses at Stockholm University, while Linnaeus University's most popular course is - bread and bread baking.
Not just baking
But it's definitely about more than flour, dough, and recipes, according to Maja Rudhe.
The course name itself may attract, but the course provides much academic knowledge related to food science. It's about, for example, chemistry, cultural history, nutrition, and food production.
The bread course has attracted over 2,000 applicants and is closed for late applications. But those who search on antagning.se will find masses of other courses, from the apocalypse in text and interpretation to overview courses in astronomy, which are still open.
