"The main goal is to block distribution and storage channels and also seize weapons, ammunition, and explosives from illegal trade", writes the national police force in social media.
According to the police, those guilty risk up to seven years in prison for crimes related to illegal weapons trade.
The weapons are in many cases taken from Russian soldiers.
The spread of weapons in Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion almost three years ago raises concerns about weapons smuggling both in Ukraine and Western countries.
In September last year, the police announced that an illegal weapons smuggling operation in the Kyiv area had been stopped and that weapons and ammunition worth approximately 40,000 euro, around 450,000 kronor, had been seized.
