A 66 million year old fossilized fish bait has been found in Denmark, announces Østsjællands Museum. It was thus thrown up around the time when the dinosaurs died out.
The discovery was made on Stevns Klint by a local resident with an interest in fossils, and he then brought the now dry fish bait pieces to a museum to have them examined.
According to experts, the fish bait consists of at least two types of sea lilies that were probably eaten by a fish that vomited up the parts it could not digest.
This type of find "is considered very important when reconstructing earlier ecosystems since it provides important information about which animals were eaten by which", writes the museum in a press release.
