The breakaway region of Transnistria, which is Moscow-friendly, in Moldova has been forced to introduce partial power outages since gas deliveries from Russia have stopped.
The decision was made on Friday since the small region, which borders Ukraine, does not have enough electricity to provide its inhabitants with heat and hot water. The reason is that Russian Gazprom has shut off gas transports to Moldova due to an economic dispute according to Moscow.
The gas agreement expired on Wednesday, which means insufficient electricity supply to Transnistria.
The rationing and stop of electricity consumption affects Transnistria's largest city, Tiraspol. Further power outages are to be expected according to the leader of the breakaway region, Vadim Krasnoselskij.
The rest of Moldova is currently replacing the lack of Russian gas exports through electricity imports from Romania.
