The police officer, who was sitting in a civilian police car, chased a motorcycle in August last year. The chase ended with the police driving through a red light at an intersection and into the side of a passenger car, reports SVT News Stockholm.
He has put the passengers in the passenger car and also other unknown people during the journey at risk of death with his driving. It was at very high speed, says Jim Westerberg, chief prosecutor at the special prosecutor's office, to SVT.
Two people were lightly injured in the collision. Jim Westerberg says that if the car that was hit did not have side airbags, the people in it could have been seriously injured.
The police officer is being prosecuted for reckless driving, endangerment, and misconduct.
The Disciplinary Board has not yet made any statement about whether the police officer will lose his job if he is convicted.
