The state's two new icebreakers will be delayed, despite an acute need and 3.4 billion kronor being allocated for the investment. The delay is due to the procurement having to be redone, reports Sveriges Radio's P4 Västerbotten.
The re-tendering means that the first new icebreaker can be put into operation at the earliest in 2028, a year later than planned. This will be a challenge.
The problem with the existing icebreakers is that they are very old, which means we have to specially manufacture spare parts. It will be a delay if we get technical complications, says Fredrik Backman, the Swedish Maritime Administration's shipping director.
