During last week, the Customs Service struck against a warehouse in Sundbyberg. On site, two men were caught loading fake vodka bottles filled with industrial spirit into a car. The men were arrested and a total of 1,380 one-liter bottles of fake vodka were found in the warehouse.
"The bottles try to give the impression that they contain genuine vodka, but laboratory analysis shows that it is fake. No one knows how it was produced and what effect it has on those who drink the spirit," says Martin Norell, an expert at the Customs Service in a press release.
Since the Customs Service cannot rule out that the fake spirit has already reached the black market, they want to warn young people.
"We have seen in previous cases that this type of alcohol in fake vodka bottles has been sold to young people. Since New Year's Eve is approaching, which is a holiday where alcohol is consumed among young people, we want to go out and warn about this industrial spirit. The New Year's party can end very badly," says Martin Norell.
The men who were arrested are now in custody. One of the men is known previously for involvement in spirit smuggling and illegal sales.
