Old people with criminal relatives are denied access

The reason for the decision is, according to the municipality, that the residents share premises and sometimes activities with preschools, and that the children must be protected from potential shootings and explosions. This reports P4 Västerbotten.

The children are extremely important and we must naturally protect them as much as we can, says the chairman of the elderly committee Karin Nilsson (S) in an interview with the radio.

The Umeå municipality is not allowed to request criminal records for the elderly. Instead, they will ask questions about their background to determine if they are suitable to live next to small children.
