Ukraine is supported and Hungary is criticized in the new EU Parliament's first resolution.
Viktor Orbán only receives support from the far-right.
The EU must continue its support to Ukraine, "as long as necessary", it says, among other things, in the statement that was voted through on Wednesday with a broad margin: 495 yes-votes against 137 no and 47 abstentions.
All 21 Swedish members voted yes.
The resolution calls for continued sanctions against Russia and Belarus and future NATO membership for Ukraine. Furthermore, both Russia's recent attack on a children's hospital in Kiev and the "peace trip" made by Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to Moscow in early July are condemned.
No one should negotiate with (Russia's President Vladimir) Putin, said Polish conservative member Andrej Halicki in the debate preceding the vote.
The resolution is a clear indication that the EU Parliament still has a clearly dominant Ukraine-friendly majority, despite the fact that far-right and Russia-friendly party groups have increased in strength.
The minority still praises Orbán, however.
I am grateful that Mr. Orbán takes responsibility, said René Aust from the German AFD.
