Data chaos at the National Board of Health and Welfare means that thousands of newly trained nurses and doctors are not receiving their licences, reports P4 Jönköping. Without a licence, it is difficult for them to work – and there is no prognosis for when the problem will be resolved.

The cause is data chaos at the National Board of Health and Welfare, which issues licences for healthcare personnel. Currently, 1,400 applications are waiting to be processed.

The problem is our e-service, which means that you cannot submit your licence application, says Åsa Wennberg, unit manager at the National Board of Health and Welfare, to P4 Jönköping.

She instead recommends using email or telephone.

Without a licence, new nurses cannot sign for medication and make certain journal entries. Instead, they are forced to work as healthcare assistants, leading to duplicated work for the regular staff who must document their work in the journal.

The National Board of Health and Welfare does not know when the problem with the e-service will be resolved.
