There is about a 90 percent probability that Donald Trump will win the US presidential election, according to an ongoing estimation made by The New York Times during the election night.
As states are counted, the assessment has leaned increasingly towards the Republican candidate. Just before 5:30 pm Swedish time, it had leaned so much that it was estimated to be around a 90 percent probability of a Trump victory.
The New York Times reports its ongoing assessment of where the election result is heading with a needle that leans towards either candidate. The assessment is said to be based partly on reported results and exit polls, and partly on other data that has been taken into account in advance, such as historical results and demographic information.
This assessment is not used to formally declare a winner, emphasizes the newspaper.
To win, the Democrats' Kamala Harris will likely need to win the swing states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
