In Sweden, nearly 3 out of 100 people donate blood. But more are needed. In a new information campaign launched today under the slogan "You carry someone else's future" the National Board of Health and Welfare hopes to increase the number of donors to at least 5 out of 100 - and reach more young men.
This group is, in fact, somewhat underrepresented when it comes to blood donors. The National Board of Health and Welfare points to reasons such as time pressure, lack of knowledge, that at this stage in life one does not think much about diseases and their consequences - and fear of needles.
Young men as a group, on the other hand, often have very good blood values and can donate blood more frequently.
The National Board of Health and Welfare, whose long-term goal is to double the number of donors, also points to an increased preparedness need in the event of a crisis or war.
