The question of faster A-tractors – but only from 16 years – is now taking a step into the goal, as final negotiations begin between the EU Parliament and EU member states on updated driver's license regulations.

The Parliament's transport committee voted late on Monday with a large majority in favor of initiating the negotiations. The package includes, among other things, rules on health control requirements for different types of driver's licenses and what probationary periods should apply to new drivers.

For A-tractors, a proposed increase in maximum speed to 45 kilometers per hour and an age limit of 16 years is suggested. Several of the Swedish members have promised to push for a 15-year age limit. However, they are expected to have an extremely difficult time getting a hearing, as both the EU Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers want an increase.

The goal is to reach a final agreement before the end of the year.
