The Italian police describe the group as a cell and its plans as far advanced. A total of 25 people are suspected within the framework of the investigation and raids were carried out in various parts of the country, according to the police report.
The group is said to have called itself the "Werwolf division" and its members are accused of being neo-Nazis or part of the white power environment, with a common goal of overthrowing democracy and establishing a new "authoritarian state based on the Aryan race".
The name "Werwolf" is borrowed from paramilitary sabotage groups formed in Nazi Germany at the end of World War II.
The twelve people arrested are between 19 and 76 years old.
