He passed away suddenly during a trip with the NATO delegation in Canada on Sunday night, local time. In an internal email to the SD parliamentary group, group leader Linda Lindberg writes that the colleague "leaves a great void behind him", according to Swedish Radio.

Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) regrets the news in a post on the platform X :

"Lars was highly appreciated, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to the buildup of the defense and support to Ukraine. My thoughts go to his family and relatives", writes Jonson.

Also Ardalan Shekarabi (S), vice chairman of the parliamentary justice committee, comments on the passing of his parliamentary colleague.

"Extremely sad. A respectful, knowledgeable, and friendly colleague. My thoughts go to his relatives and friends", he writes on X.

Wistedt became a member of parliament after the 2022 election. Before his career in politics, he worked in the Defense Forces as an officer until 2008. After that, he worked, among other things, with security issues at ABB and Seco Tools, according to Expressen.

Wistedt was 60 years old.
